  • Tax Reform Implementation: KW-IRS Sensitizes ANAN on Stamp Duty Administration
  • August 6, 2026

As part of continuous efforts to sensitize stakeholders on the implementation of the tax reform, the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) organized a training program for members of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Kwara State Branch on Wednesday, 5th August 2026, to enhance their understanding of the new tax laws particularly for stamp duty administration.

The session which held at the ANAN Secretariat, Sulu Gambari Road, Ilorin, formed part of the Service’s commitment to ensuring the effective implementation of the new tax reform through sustained stakeholder engagement and collaboration. The training titled “New Tax Law: The Effect on the Administration of Stamp Duties on Instruments,” emphasized the need to equip accounting professionals with practical knowledge of the evolving legal framework governing stamp duties in Nigeria.

Leading the workshop, the KW-IRS Commissioner for Stamp Duties, Abubakar Abdulmumini, alongside Nafisat Lawal Seriki, delivered comprehensive presentations on the new tax reform. They took the participants through the enabling laws, especially the Nigeria Tax Act (NTA), 2025 and the Nigeria Tax Administration Act (NTAA), 2025, highlighting the key reforms aimed at modernizing stamp duty administration. The discussions also covered the changes introduced by the new tax laws such as the expanded dutiable instruments, methods of denoting stamp duty, penalties for non-compliance as provided by the NTAA 2025, and exempted instruments under the tax regime.

The sensitization program featured an engaging interactive session, during which participants sought clarifications and exchanged ideas on the practical application of the new tax laws. The question and answer session provided an opportunity for members of the Association to gain deeper insights into the reforms and their implications for professional practice and tax compliance.

In her closing remarks, the State Chairman of the Association, Hajia Ramat Remi Sulyman, expressed appreciation to KW-IRS for the insightful presentation and commended the Service for its commitment to continuous stakeholder engagement and taxpayer education. She encouraged members of the Association to keep abreast of the new tax laws and support efforts aimed at promoting voluntary tax compliance.

The program concluded with a group photograph, symbolizing the strengthened partnership between KW-IRS and the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Kwara State Branch, in advancing effective stamp duty administration and successful implementation of the new tax reform.
