?    Stamp Duty is a tax levied on documents or Instruments; it is basically taxes paid to the Federal and State government on documents (known as instrument).

?    Stamp duty is a physical stamp (a revenue stamp) attached to or impressed upon documents before the document could become legally effective.

?    Section 19 of the Stamp Duties Act states that the legal effect of a document stamp duty is basically to make such document capable of being admissible as evidence in the court of law.

?    Stamp Duty is a prerequisite to process Certificate of Occupancy.

?    Stamp Duties can be done through these steps:

i.    Presentation of documents to be stamp duty;
ii.    Estimation and computation of stamp duty charges to be paid;
iii.    Payment made based on computed charges;
iv.    Issuance of receipt to acknowledge payment;
v.    Stamping/Sealing of document is done;
vi.    Signing of document by approved signatory

?    Examples of documents on which Stamp Duties could be applied on include Contract Agreement, Land Agreement, Sublease Agreement, Leasehold Agreement or Rent Agreement, Deed of Gift, Deed of Release, Receipts of purchase, etc.

?    KWIRS encourages taxpayers to transact directly with the official revenue officers at the various KWIRS offices and payment points situated across Kwara State and ensure all payments are receipted accordingly.

?    All revenue payments are to be made ONLY into the Kwara State Government IGR Accounts through the online payment platforms provided by the State – REMITA, QUICKTELLER, PAYARENA and others that would be communicated in due course.

?    You can apply and generate your Kwara Resident Identification Number (KRIN) and Tax Identification Number (TIN); View Tax Records and Transact any Tax Related activity by just a click on selfservice.kwirs.com.

?  For any revenue enquiry, complaint, clarification, you can visit the Corporate Head Office of KWIRS on 27, Ahmadu Bello way, GRA, Ilorin or any KWIRS office within Ilorin and across all Local Government Areas of Kwara State.
