The Vice-Chancellor, Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, Professor Muhammed Akanbi (SAN), and his Management team, on Tuesday 22nd June 2021, paid a courtesy visit to the Corporate Head Office of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service ( KW-IRS), in Ilorin, to further complement the already existing mutual relationship between both institutions of government.
The visiting team, led by Prof. Akanbi, SAN, was received by the Executive Chairman, Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), Shade Omoniyi, in the company of the Directors and management staff of the Service.
The Vice-Chancellor KWASU, noted that the visit to KW-IRS was reciprocal and a formal way of expressing appreciation to the agency for the exceptional productive relationship that exists between both bodies over the years, while commending the host for a warm reception.
Rolling out the essence of the visit on behalf of the institution, the Director, Institute of Professional and Continuous Education, KWASU, Dr. Mubaraq Sanni, disclosed, that, discussing ways to further partner with KW-IRS on various available newly introduced courses on taxation at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the institution, participation of KW-IRS staff in the Tax Academy programs being coordinated by the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) currently housed by KWASU, developmental and capacity building training are important to the meeting.
Dr. Mubaraq added that the visit was also to create an opportunity for KWASU to benefit in the Community Impact Programs of KW-IRS, particularly in the area of sponsoring Professorial Chair at the institution as obtainable in other States in the country, appealing to the KW-IRS Boss to accept the seat in due time.
Dr. Mubaraq seeks the implementation of a tax credit infrastructural scheme for the institution with a view of having profiting corresponding benefits for being a tax-compliant institution, among several other benefits that could aid the efficient running of the institution.
In the strategic and partnership plans of the institution, some other presentations at the meeting were consideration of concessional tax arrangement, promotion of collaborative efforts towards learning and character development for inmates at the various correctional centres and facilities in Kwara State as a way of changing prisoners’ orientation and preparing them for community reintegration.
In her response, the Executive Chairman, KW-IRS, expressed her appreciation to the visiting team and assured that the agency remains committed to its sole responsibility of revenue administration for the strategic development of the State and readiness to work closely with KWASU, just as with every other agencies and institutions in the State, towards promoting excellence and achieving the developmental goals of the Abdulrahman AbdulRazak led administration.
Omoniyi said requests, as highlighted by the institution, are well noted and measures required to making them happen in the shortest period of time, in forms of advocacies and necessary influence would be made.
The KW-IRS boss reiterated that the Service runs its activities within the monthly subvention been given, just like any other agencies of government in the State, but will not stop to continue to use her good office and all within her power to facilitate the deployment of infrastructures that will assist the institution in and in turn improve revenue generation for the State.
She assured continued partnership towards the progress and development of the State.
The meeting, however, called for the constitution of a 7-man technical committee from the two bodies to address various issues of concerns raised, in a bid to finding mutual beneficial relationship.
The Executive Chairman, KW-IRS and Vice-Chancellor, KWASU, selected and inaugurated the 7-man committee, which consisted four members from KWASU and three members from KW-IRS.
They are the Bursar, KWASU, Mohammed Abubakar Sani; Director, KWASU Business School, Prof. Kenneth Adeyemi;
Director, Institute of Professional and Continuous Education, KWASU,
Dr. Mubaraq Sanni; and
Director, Investment & Consultancy KWASU,
Dr. Rahman Mustapha.
From the KW-IRS, are the Director, Admin and Operations, Olatunji Balogun, Head, Institutions, Ayodeji Koledade, Area Coordinator, Moro, Aliu Adebayo.
The 7-man technical committee is to be chaired by the Director, KWASU Business School, Professor Kenneth Adeyemi and is expected to come up with comprehensive strategic plans to actualizing all concerns put forward and partnership models for both KW-IRS and KWASU.
