In its resolve to raise a generation of tax compliant citizens and continue to create a tax informed State,the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) staged the Grand Finale of the 2021 Tax Club Quiz Competition for Secondary Schools in Kwara on the 4th of November 2021.
The event, held at the Kwara State Banquet Hall, Ilorin had three schools out of the six schools that competed in the final round of the 2021 Tax Club Quiz Competition emerged winners.
The Executive Governor of Kwara State, ably represented by his deputy, Mr.Kayode Alabi congratulated KW-IRS on the occasion of another great feat and the contesting schools for their commitment and coming thus far in the competition, with the assurance that the AbdulRahman AbdulRazak led administration is not resting on its oars in ensuring adequate investment and improvement of the education sector of the State.
Giving her opening remarks, the Executive Chairman, KW-IRS, Shade Omoniyi welcomed everyone to the Grand Finale, noting that KW-IRS interest in tax awareness and inculcation of tax knowledge into the younger generation gave birth to the Tax Club Quiz Competition for Secondary School in the State.
She stressed that KW-IRS as the sole agency of government responsible for revenue administration in the State will continue to imbibe the culture of wholistic investment in unceasing tax advocacy and sensitization campaigns across all sectors of the economy, towards an enhanced Internally Generated Revenue for the State and in building the Kwara we all desire.
Corroborating the Executive Chairman, KW-IRS, the Chairman of the constituted KW-IRS Tax Club Advocacy Committee (TACAC), Babatunde Salawu gave an overview of the competition, stating that a total of 142 schools registered for the 2021 Tax Club Quiz Competition across the State, and the preliminary rounds, were conducted in the three senatorial districts of the State, to ensure active participation of all and for convenience.
He added that the 2021 competition is technologically driven, a shift from the usual, with the inclusion of Computer Based Test,(CBT) as an additional benefit to participating schools.
Highlights of the 2021 Tax Club Quiz Competition include presentation of trophies and cheques of N2,500,000.00 (Two Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira, only), being the grand prize to Stepping Stone College as the overall winner.
Eucharistic Heart of Jesus Model College received
N1,500,000.00 (One Million, Five Hundred Naira, only)
as the prize for the first runner up and the second runner up, Government Secondary School Ilesha Baruba went home with N1,000,000.00 (One Million Naira only).
There were Teachers and Students’ categories of cash prizes; gifts of educational materials and other items were also given to all participating students, teachers and schools.
The occasion had in attendance the Olomu of Omupo, His Royal Highness Oba Yakubu Buari, who is also a Fellow, Chartered Institute of Taxation(FCTI), the Olupo of Ajase Ipo, His Royal Highness Oba Ismail Yahaya, Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajiya Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, represented by Director, School Services Mr.Oyunranti Aderemi, National Presidents, State Chairmen and council members of Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria(CITN) and Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria(ICAN), educationists in the State, top management and staff of KW-IRS among other dignitaries.
