The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), today, Wednesday, 26th March, 2025, hosted online creative industry comprising of DJs, Food Vendors, MCs, Decorators,Event planners, and others operating in the State to a one-day tax compliance sensitization program at the KW-IRS Corporate Head Office, G.R.A, Ilorin.

The maiden sensitization program, according to the KW-IRS Executive Chairman, Shade Omoniyi, in her opening remarks, is aimed at creating hands-on taxation-related enlightenment and further advising business owners on their civic responsibilities as entrepreneurs and business owners especially those without physical offices.

Shade Omoniyi, while assuring the sector of a productive working relationship, described the program as being of immense importance to the revenue growth of the State, considering the provision and position of the new tax reforms. She added that the program will further assist business owners to make decisive tax-related decisions; and improve their basic knowledge and understanding about proper bookkeeping, and separating what is taxable from income generated from their businesses to avoid penalties and unnecessary harassment.

Omoniyi, clarified that although the Service since the commencement of the current administration frowns at all manners of wasteful spending and unproductive activities, however, KW-IRS remains committed to providing a friendly community for businesses to thrive.

The sensitization program featured a series of paper presentations from KW-IRS tax executives, focusing on encouraging ethical working relationship between the revenue agency and the creative industry in the State; the need for proper record-keeping of business transactions, prompt filing of annual tax returns, creation of a designated business account, among other discussions.
The presentations also examined various types of taxes applicable to the sector, and the principles of taxation, while also clarifying some misconceptions that have been associated with the KW-IRS brand over the years.

The sensitization program also featured a questions and answers session, where participants sought clarity on tax-related issues in relation to their businesses.

The KW-IRS Director, Income Tax, Mohammed Usman, while delivering his closing speech expressed appreciation to the participants for attending the session and their continuous contributions to the economic viability of the State. He assured them that the Service will maintain fruitful relationship with business owners in the State irrespective of their categories.

The event had in attendance members of the KW-IRS top management team, some Heads of Departments, and selected department representatives from the Service.
