KW-IRS Extends Voluntary Compliance Sensitization Tour to Share, Bode Saadu

In furtherance to the sensitization exercise initiated by the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) for commercial transport workers on the voluntary compliance of road taxes, Personal Income Tax (PIT) and other related issues across the State.

The Legal and Compliance Directorate team led by Barrister Lukman Mustapha in the company of Area Coordinators visited Share and Bode Saadu in Ifelodun and Moro Local Government Areas respectively on Wednesday, 11th February 2020.

The aim was to engage well-meaning stakeholders and provide them with necessary guidelines for various payment processes as regards Road and other Taxes accruable to the State Government.

The sensitization program held at the respective Motor Licencing Offices in the Local Government Areas was done in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other security agencies.

In attendance were Executives and representatives of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Okada Riders Association and Tricycle Association in the localities.

Barrister Lukman emphasized that the essence of the sensitization program is to foster deliberate compliance of payments of all forms of road taxes, Personal Income Tax payment (PIT), validation and revalidation of documents of all forms of commercial automobile across the State.

He further charged the commercial transport workers to remain corporative with the revenue agency, security operatives and the FRSC by being security conscious and law-abiding especially while plying roads in the State.

He stated that commercial automobile users should obtain the new number plates as a directive from the Federal Government and to also endeavor that all vehicle documents, driver licenses, and rider permits are processed and acquired from the appropriate authorities.

Also speaking at the program, Head of Driver License Centre, Share, Route Commander S.A. Ore commended commercial motorists for their usual corporation with FRSC operatives in the area over the years.

He also appealed to the transporters to ensure they duly register their new and old vehicles at the appropriate offices and make plans to replace their old number plates with the new ones before the Federal Government authorizes legal enforcement on defaulters across the State.

S.A. Ore implore commercial drivers to ensure they obtain legit driver and riders licenses and permits at the designated offices to avoid unnecessary delay and embarrassment while carrying out their daily activities.

He added that the FRSC and KW-IRS will no longer renew old number plates for private and commercial purposes, charging all road users to comply with the new initiative for the security of lives and their properties.

In their separate responses, the representatives of the various commercial transport workers appreciated KW-IRS, FRSC and security agency for the recognition and the need for sensitization.

They assured that the keynotes of the interactive session will be relayed to their respective members and compliance will be achievable.

The Union leaders also pleaded with the enforcement team of the KW-IRS to exercise patience while members sort out payment plans for the acquisition of the new number plate, renewal of vehicle documents and payment of PIT. They charged the State government to extend road construction, rehabilitation and provision of needed social amenities to their respective locality while they also carry out their civic responsibilities.
