The Executive Chairman, Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), Shade Omoniyi, was among the panelists at the Ethiopia-Nigeria Exchange Visit Workshop themed “Financing Sustainable Development through South-South Cooperation”, held on Wednesday, 24th June 2026 at Wells Carlton Hotel & Apartments, Asokoro, Abuja.
Speaking during the panel session, Omoniyi explained that Kwara State has embraced a collaborative approach to revenue administration through the establishment of a Tax Reform Committee, inaugurated by the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON. She noted that the committee comprises key stakeholders in the State’s tax administration system and has significantly contributed to institutional strengthening, capacity development, and increased tax awareness.

She further highlighted the role of the State Joint Revenue Committee (JRC), which convenes monthly meetings involving the State Internal Revenue Service and Local Government Councils to foster synergy, enhance coordination, and reduce disputes and multiplicity in revenue collection.
According to the Executive Chairman, Kwara State continues to leverage data-driven strategies and technology to identify and register taxpayers, validate records, and facilitate data sharing for efficient taxpayer identification, which have helped reduce duplication, improve compliance, and enhance overall operational efficiency.
Shade Omoniyi also showcased several impactful programmes and initiatives of the Kwara State Government that promote sustainable development and encourage tax compliance, including interventions under the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) and the Ilorin Innovation Hub.
While acknowledging the positive outcomes of the ongoing tax reforms, such as improved compliance levels and increased voluntary tax declarations, she emphasized that there remains significant room for growth. She therefore called for deeper technological integration and stronger administrative collaboration among stakeholders within the revenue ecosystem to maximize the benefits of tax reforms and drive sustainable development.
Dignitaries at the event were the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, OSSAP SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire; Hon.
