The Management of Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) has completed a 2-day strategic session organized to assess the success achieved in the year 2023 as it concerns revenue growth, Service performance, and to present blueprints towards attainment of improved Internally Generated Revenue for the State in the year 2024.
The session which held from 18th to 19th January, 2024 at the KW-IRS Corporate Head Office in Ilorin, had in attendance all members of top management team, Heads of Departments, and selected staff of the Service.
Declaring open the strategic session, the Executive Chairman, KW-IRS, Shade Omoniyi, appreciated staff that worked assiduously all through the year 2023; those at the forefront of revenue collection and those that provided needed backend support for the attainment of the set N50billion revenue target, tagged “Our KW-IRS, Our 50BN” in January 2023, adding that all staff of the Service needs to continually imbibe the major 3Cs principles of the Service – Communication, Collaboration and Coordination, remain focused and committed in the year 2024 in order to surpass an even higher revenue budget for the year.
The KW-IRS boss in her speech hinted that implementation of series of tax reforms and resolutions of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, led by Taiwo Oyedele, with holistic modifications in tax administration in Nigeria are expected to drive revenue of States across the federation.
She therefore urged staff to remain flexible in the preparations for the impending tax reforms; deliver smart and technological approaches as required, and deploy matching strategies to meet challenges and changes as needs arise.
Shade Omoniyi also commended stakeholders for their support and assured more symbiotic and productive relationships with all MDAs in the State. “We will focus and do more in terms of data sharing, efficient collaboration, and devote needed resources towards complete elimination of revenue diversion and leakages through full automation of all revenue processes as accruable to the Kwara State Government. “Automation of all revenue processes in the State remains our major focus for revenue drive and growth; it has worked for us over the last 4 years and it will remain with us as a Service” stated Omoniyi.
The KW-IRS boss implored all government agencies and parastatals to key into the automation reforms of the Service to move Kwara to an enviable position in the area of IGR collections.
The interactive retreat featured presentations of strategies and clear-cut action plans of each department of the Service, aimed at achieving the revenue budget of the State for the year 2024 and increment of IGR by not less than 10% year on year through to the year 2027.
Achieving year 2024 revenue budget of the State would hinge on implementation of all the strategic plans as highlighted during the retreat, which include but not limited to full acceptance and deployment of technology across revenue collection points, top-notch customer service, effective inter-departmental and ministerial collaborations, data sharing and gathering, reclassification of taxpayers, widening the tax net, and enforcement.
Other strategies as captured at the retreat are full implementation of harmonized billing system, cashless policy, preloaded monetary card, ticketing model, voluntary tax compliance advocacy, and implementation of enabling revenue administration laws and conducive business environment in the State.
Celebrating the accomplishment of the 2023 revenue target, and in preparation to achieving set revenue target for the year 2024, the Executive Chairman, Shade Omoniyi after the management retreat, hosted the top management team and staff of the Service to a fun filled festivity which featured staff bonding, merriments, feasting, dancing competition, award presentations to staff who have performed excellently in different departments of the Service in the year 2023. It also included giveaway of gift items to staff to spice up the staff Get- Together.
