As part of the collaborative roles of ensuring the building of Kwara of our dream, the Executive Chairman, Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), Shade Omoniyi, who doubles as a member of the Kwara State Committee on Transport Sanitization Committee, today 9th December 2021 participated in the flag-off ceremony of the issuance of the new uniforms to all Commercial Motorcyclists in the State.
The flag off ceremony was incorporated into the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected executives of Okada Riders Association of Nigeria (ORAN), Kwara State chapter.
Reiterating the continuous support and collaboration of KW-IRS with the Informal sector of the State, Shade Omoniyi congratulated the new executives of ORAN, stating that the uniform launch is an initiative of the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led administration to ensure adequate security and planning purposes of the State.
She noted that capturing of all Okada riders in the State for proper identification of all operators in the sector has become necessary to further help curb criminal activities and strengthen security of lives and properties.
Omoniyi, applauded the Kwara State Government for the political will, emphasising that compliance to the use of the uniforms by Okada riders would be appreciated and adequate monitoring mechanism put in place for effectiveness of the initiative.
She added that it will be an offence if any commercial Okada rider is found wanting in this regard.
The KW-IRS boss did not fail to mention that each Okada rider to be given the uniform in the State would have a unique identifier and an identity card that matches with the identifier issued.
Representing the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq at the event was the Commissioner for Works and Transport, who doubles as the Chairman,Transport Sanitization Committee, Honourable Rotimi Iliasu Suleiman.
Engineer Suleiman, said that Okada operators are major stakeholders in the transport sector and the move to have uniform for them is a sign that Kwara State Government will continue to prioritize security and welfare of citizens.
In his own remarks, the newly elected Chairman, Okada Riders Association of Nigeria(Kwara State), Mr. Gabriel Ajewole, noted that Okada as a means of transportation has gained national recognition and has been identified as a means of livelihood that has improved the economy of the State.
He appreciated the State government for the initiative that ensure proper control and regulation to the activities of Okada riders in the State
Mr. Ajewole charged members to comply with the new rules as set by the State, with admonition to members to continue to play their part in the growth and development of Kwara State and in also being voluntary tax compliant citizens.
The occasion had in attendance, Management and staff of KW-IRS, Ministry of Works,Senior Special Assistance to the Governor on Security, Alhaji Muhyideen Aliyu, and representatives of the seven associations under the Okada Riders Association of Nigeria in the State.
