The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) concluded the two weeks training and orientation exercise for its newly recruited staff and issued letters of employment to the 100 (One Hundred) new staff of the Service on Friday, 17th December, 2021.
This is in line with the efforts of the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led administration to provide jobs for its citizens and ensure workforce penetration into the rural areas of the State.
Making her presentation during training sessions, the Executive Chairman, KW-IRS, Shade Omoniyi shared with the newly recruited staff the Vision and Mission of KW-IRS, stating that the Service has the mandate of revenue mobilization and serving the residents of Kwara State using the most convenient strategies that will add value and integrity to the revenue mobilization process and actualize the developmental objectives of the Government.
Omoniyi added that Service, Honesty, Integrity, Responsibility and Trust are core values required of every staff of KW-IRS for effective and efficient revenue administration and mobilization for the State.
She reminded all trainees to be of good behaviour at all times and put in their best on the job, charging them to keep in mind the rare opportunity they got among several applicants.
The KW-IRS boss reiterated that KW-IRS will not relent in ensuring delivery on its reform objectives and as the first and only ISO Certified Revenue Service in Nigeria, it is resolved to maintaining and sustaining the requirements of the two ISO certification-Quality Management System (QMS 9001:2015) and Business Continuity Management System (BCMS 22301: 2019) by continuous demonstration of commitment to customer satisfaction, resilience and business continuity regardless of any incidence or threats. “The use of expertise, refined processes, and modern-day technology, to outclass our peers in the country remain our focus” stated Omoniyi.
The orientation and training covered several strategy sessions and exposition of the new staff to activities of the various Directorates and Departments of the Service, anchored by Directors and Head of Departments of the Service. Other discourse during the orientation week include sessions on creativity, Innovation and Teamwork towards the right attitude of staff on the job and on enhancement of revenue for the actualization of the set developmental goals of Kwara State.
You will recall that notice of recruitment of Revenue Officers into 11 Area Offices of the Service, (Baruten, Kaiama, Edu, Ekiti, Ifelodun, Irepodun, Isin, Offa, Oke-Ero, Oyun, and Patigi Local Government Areas) was published on the 9th of April, 2021, with a total of 12,056 (Twelve Thousand, and Fifty Six) applications – 63% and 37% males and females respectively. A total of 1,663 were shortlisted for the Computer Based Test (CBT), while 529 out of them qualified for the subsequent interview session.
At the end of the exercise, 100 (One Hundred) candidates were recruited to fill in available spaces and join existing staff of the Service at the 11 Local Government Areas outside Ilorin metropolis.
This is aimed at enhanced revenue drive and to ease tax activities for grass-root taxpayers by elimination of need for taxpayers to visit the State capital for revenue transaction.
