The Honourable Commissioner, Kwara State Ministry of Environment, Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh led the Kwara State Environmental Task Force on a working visit to the Corporate Head Office of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), Ilorin, today Thursday 10th February 2022.
According to the Honourable Commissioner, the visit was to seek productive collaboration between KW-IRS and the Ministry of Environment in the areas of provision of needed data that will aid environmental exercise purposes, arrangement of a seamless waste collection processes from residents of the State through provision of mobile waste bins and bags, consideration of additional dumpsites in the State, and continuous environmental sanitation advocacy campaigns.
The Chairman, Kwara State Environmental Task Force, Air Vice Marshal Ishaq Balogun Rtd., further explained that the partnership is geared towards improved waste and revenue collection for the State through waste removal and proper disposal and in ensuring green and cleaner Kwara.
Welcoming the team, the Executive Chairman, Kwara State Internal Revenue Service, (KW-IRS) Shade Omoniyi, expressed her delight over the confidence reposed in the Service as a viable databank and revenue mobilizing agent for the State.
Shade Omoniyi, commended several outstanding initiatives of the Ministry under the leadership of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq on cleanliness advocacies; such as the continuous campaigns against open defecation, provision of accessible basic health care facilities, smooth cross-work relationship between MDAs in the State, and the constitution of a task force on environment as headed by Air Vice Marshal Ishaq Balogun Rtd.
She assured the Ministry of Environment and the Task Force on Environment of the readiness of the Service to give full support required to bring about expected results.
The visiting team were advised on ensuring clear cut demarcation, pronouncement of job functions and proper orientation are given to engaged consultants carrying out the waste collection in the State on their behalf to avoid clashes between the Commercial and Social waste collectors that could amount to infringement on taxpayers rights and affect accurate remittance of revenue due from the exercise.
The Ministry appreciated the KW-IRS for the warm reception with promises to judiciously deploy data and other resources from the Service to improve the environment and also the revenue of the State.
The meeting had in attendance, Director, Legal & Compliance, Shehu Abdullahi, Director, Admin & Operations, Olatunji Balogun, staff of KW-IRS and the Ministry of Environment and the members of the Kwara State Task Force on Environment.
