The Annual Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) End of Year Sports Fiesta was concluded on Friday, 17th December, 2021 at the Trillium School field, Phase III office, Irewolede area, Ilorin, Kwara State.
The 2021 sports festival for KW-IRS kick started on 18th November, 2021 and featured track and field events, indoor games such as scrabble, chess, classical board game, volleyball, table tennis and soccer keenly competed by male and female staff of KW-IRS.
The various games, after tough elimination rounds and upsets, produced winners.
The medalists for the female table tennis game remains Kwara’s finest champion Shade Olanipekun, while Aliu Abdulrasaq won gold medal in the male’s category.
Uthman Uthman also won gold medal in the chess board game (Blitz) for the male catalog, while Mardiyyah Abdulsalam-Kehinde retains her gold spot decorations in her usual grand style in the classical series of the game.
For the scrabble games held at the KW-IRS Phase I board room; Hanafi Olarewaju and Aminat Oyetola won gold apiece. Sunday Agbana cruises home with gold medal on a solo run in the classical board game (ayo olopon). The Executive Chairman’s team and MDAs Directorate team also share their spoils to emerge winners of the volleyball game.
The grand finale of the End of Year Soccer games took place on Friday 17th December,2021 at the Trillium School field, Phase III office, Irewolede area, Ilorin and was witnessed by the Executive Chairman, KW-IRS, Shade Omoniyi, Director, Admin & Operations, Olatunji Balogun, Director, Legal & Compliance, Shehu Mogaji Abdullahi, Director, Income Tax, Mohammed Shehu and other Management team and staff of the Service.
Declaring the final game open, the Executive Chairman, KW-IRS,Shade Omoniyi, expressed appreciation to all participants from the beginning of the 6th End of Year games in November 2021 till the grand finale. She said reports of the conducts and activities of competitors have been fair and satisfactory in all manners and she is proud to be associated with all participating staff having propelled the true spirit of sportsmanship while aiming the bigger prices.
The final game was between Income Tax Team and the MDAs Team. MDAs Team took the lead at the end of the first half of the encounter, while at the early minutes of the second half, the dogged Income Tax team took advantage of the sloppy defense of their counterpart and fired home a strike to level up the score-lines to 1-1.
At the end of the regular 90 minutes, the tough contest ended at a stalemate and both teams proceeded to a straight penalty shootout.
The first round of the shootout saw the MDAs goalkeeper Olatunji Yusuf displayed exceptional performance blocking off shots targeted at various spots at the back of his net and cruising his team to victory and also wining himself best gloves at the soccer fiesta for the first time.
Major half time highlights were double 100 meters race contested by male and female staff of the Service. Dare Akogun won gold medal in the male category and Fausat Ismail also won gold in the female heat race to rap up KW-IRS Sports activities for the year 2021.
Trophies, medals, certificates were also presented to participants, and referees at the end of the games witnessed by massive supporters, sports lovers, friends of KW-IRS, staff, sports officials and commentators such as ace sports journalist Bayo Issa and his crew, members of the sportswriters association and stakeholders in and outside Kwara State.
