The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), in its continued effort to enhance operational efficiency and set major strategies and approaches to achieve its 2026 budget, held a two-day Strategic Management Retreat at the Fresh Hotel Ilorin, Kwara State, on Thursday, 5th, and Friday, 6th February 2026.
The strategic session highlighted the success factors and appraised the overall revenue performance of 2025, while developing effective strategies for achieving the 2026 revenue budget.
The Executive Chairman, KW-IRS, Shade Omoniyi, while declaring the retreat open, commended the staff’s collaborative efforts, noting that the various outstanding achievements recorded since the inception of the present administration are a testament to the planned and collective efforts of the Service’s workforce. She further emphasised the need to continue to build on the numerous successes to strengthen quality service delivery and ensure full implementation of the new tax reforms.

Departments took turns to present their achievements for the year 2025 and outlined strategies aimed at improving performance in 2026. Participants also engaged in aerobic sessions designed to promote staff wellness and boost productivity.
The retreat featured two separate paper presentations by the KW-IRS Director, Admin and Operations, Yusuf La-Kadri, and the Head, Corporate Planning, Muhammed Audu, who urged participants to ensure progressive mentoring and influence on subordinates; as well as development of a positive attitude in the course of discharging their duties and responsibilities, while portraying the KW-IRS brand in good light at all times.
Part of the highlights of the retreat was the keynote presentation by the former Executive Chairman of the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service and member of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform, Mr. Tolu Adegbie, who delivered a paper titled “State IRS Tax Reform Implementation Strategies,” revealing major productive strategies pertinent to the successful implementation of the tax reform, and ensuring optimum revenue mobilisation for the State.
In her closing remarks, the Executive Chairman described the retreat as highly participatory and successful. She thanked all participants for their cooperation and valuable contributions, expressing confidence in the adopted strategies and the seamless implementation of the new tax reform going forward.
