As part of its mandate to foster tax education among younger generations, the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) welcomed representatives from the University of Ilorin and Kwara State University Tax Clubs today, Thursday, 21st November 2024, at its Corporate Head Office.
The team, led by the Presidents of the Unilorin and KWASU Tax Clubs, Adekunle Olajide and Babatunde Toyibat respectively, expressed their gratitude to KW-IRS for the warm reception. They highlighted the purpose of their visit was to seek enhanced collaboration with KW-IRS to promote tax education and encourage compliance within their communities.
The representatives outlined several activities they have undertaken to foster tax education and increase compliance, including organizing an annual tax club competition, conducting sensitization programs for secondary schools, and running tax awareness campaigns on the radio. While acknowledging their support from KW-IRS, they emphasized that a significant tax education gap is still in their communities, underscoring the need for strategic partnerships to address this challenge.
In her response, the Executive Chairman, Shade Omoniyi, commended the students for their proactive efforts in raising awareness about tax education. She advised them to familiarize themselves with recent tax reforms to enhance their knowledge of taxation. She encouraged them to collaborate with other tax clubs across higher institutions in the state. This, she explained, would help create a unified network working toward a common goal. She further assured them of KW-IRS’s unwavering commitment to nurturing a tax-conscious society and supporting initiatives that drive compliance and education.
The meeting was also attended by the Director of Legal and Compliance, Shehu Abdullahi, the Special Assistant to the Executive Chairman, Taofiq Alabi, the Acting Head of Corporate Affairs, Funmilola Oguntunbi, members of the Corporate Affairs Department, and representatives of both Institutions.
