In a bid to continuously adopt new approach to driving revenue for the strategic growth of the State, the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) held a One-Day Interactive Retreat for the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) Directorate of the Service.

The Retreat titled “Repositioning the MDAs Directorate for an effective revenue mobilization in 2022 and beyond” was held today Tuesday 25th January, 2022 at the KW-IRS Corporate Head Office, G.R.A, Ilorin, Kwara State.

The Executive Chairman, KW-IRS, Shade Omoniyi, while declaring the retreat open, emphasized that, MDAs remain integral source of internally generated revenue for the State,hence its revenue collection processes need constant review.

Shade Omoniyi commended the significant shift in the revenue collections of the MDAs over the past two years, calling for more and for the contributions of participants at the retreat towards a better IGR collections.

She noted that there is need for Head of Departments in MDAs Directorate to go back to the drawing board, alongside other members of their team to identify and create much more practicable and clear cut out game changing modalities that will assist in achieving the 2022 budget of the State, with recommendations for special attention on Hospital and Property collections.

Omoniyi, added that collections from Judiciary, Pilgrims, Parastatals,Road taxes and every revenue line of the State are not to be left out in the focus.

The retreat featured presentations from various departments of the MDAs Directorate.

Making his presentation at the retreat, Abayomi Ajiboso who spoke to the topic “Role of Kwara State Internal Revenue Service in revenue mobilization across the MDAs in Kwara State”, said that MDAs Directorate must be deliberate about its decisions on unlocking untapped revenue in the State to achieve the set budget.

Ajiboso highlighted various revenue administration laws backing the independence and roles of KW-IRS as the sole agency responsible for revenue administration in Kwara State, calling on staff of MDAs and the Legal Directorate of the Service to seize the advantages contained in the relevant laws to enhance IGR of the State and to aid the implementation of the developmental agenda of the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led administration.

The retreat also suggested an immediate implementation of revenue mobilization control policy which will enhance creation of adequate checks and balances in revenue generation processes, produce standard revenue mobilization plans and reporting of collections in the MDAs, all done in accordance with the best practices.

Representatives from various departments under the MDAs Directorate; Stamp Duties, Ministry, Property Tax, Institutions, Parastatals, Road Taxes, Area Offices from Kwara North & South and  representatives from other Directorates and Departments of the Service took turns to present blueprints aimed towards a well-structured and productive MDAs.

In their separate submissions, issues of apathy by sisters’ agencies in the State were illustrated as a major setback in revenue drive of the State, this was noted requires to change to achieve the common good of Kwara State.

In her closing remarks, the Executive Chairman, KW-IRS, Shade Omoniyi commended the resourcefulness of all participants and described the retreat as timely, coming early in the year, as guides for MDAs to reposition their working plans, and arrive at a decisive point that will further grow the revenue of the MDAs and the State.

The retreat had in attendance the top management team of KW-IRS, Head of various departments and representatives from departments of the Service.
