KW-IRS hosts Commercial Transport Workers Stakeholders on Voluntary Compliance of Road Taxes

  • February 25, 2020

The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) organized a sensitization program for commercial road users on the voluntary compliance of road taxes and other related matters.

The sensitization program was held in Offa, Offa Local government area of Kwara State today Monday, 24 February 2020.

The stakeholders’ engagement meeting held at the KW-IRS’s Motor Licensing Authority office in Offa was in collaboration with various security agencies and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Barrister Lukman Mustapha of the Legal and Compliance Directorate who represented KW-IRS, said, the essence of the stakeholder’s engagement was to sensitize road users especially commercial transport workers on the need to pay their relevant taxes as stipulated by law promptly.

He also added that the sensitization became paramount so as to enable the revenue officials to understand the challenges of the people and to also take feedbacks for further flexible tax administration in the State.

At the interactive session, issues raised by Union Heads, and representatives include the issuance of backdated Personal Income Tax (PIT) receipt by the revenue agency, cost of renewal of number plates, issuance of driver’s license and replacement of old number plates.

In response, Barrister Lukman cleared that PIT payment and receipt issuance are usually done in arrears which inclined that the previous year will always reflect on any genuine receipt issued by the revenue agency.

He also said the cost of procuring a new number plate is fixed by the State government and any subsequent review will also be done by them as the appropriate authority.

The representatives of the security agencies also admonished motorists and road users on the need to pay their road taxes promptly and remain security conscious by reporting any unregistered and illegal motorists for an improved security system in Offa and across the State.

Barrister Lukman in his closing remarks promised the commercial motorists a cordial relationship at all times and assured that their various concerns will be lodged appropriately and positive feedback will be communicated to them through their heads in due course.
