Home / Uncategorized / Collaboration for Improved IGR: Kwara State Tax Consultants Forum Visits KW-IRS
  • March 28, 2025

As part of efforts to boost Kwara IGR through effective collaborations, members of the Kwara State Tax Consultants Forum paid a courtesy visit to the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), on Thursday, 27th March, 2025, at the corporate head office of the Service at GRA, Ilorin.

The Chairman of the Forum, Ameen Rasaq explained that the purpose of the visit was to present the challenges faced by the consultants in carrying out their duties in the State, strengthen collaboration between Tax Consultants and KW-IRS, and ultimately ensure a good working relationship between both parties for the development of Kwara State especially where revenue generation is concerned.

Speaking further, Ismail Yunus commended the Executive Chairman for the cordial relationship that exists between KW-IRS and Tax Consultants in the State, He cited instances where the consultants have worked in the interest of the Service and the State at large, adding that the visit became imperative in order to formally collaborate with the revenue agency as partners in progress towards the economic development of Kwara State.

Welcoming the visiting team, the KW-IRS Executive Chairman, Shade Omoniyi, explained that the Service is working towards improving tax compliance in the State through sensitization, partnership with stakeholders and making sure that things are done the right way in accordance with the law. She stated that taxpayers must begin to align with the provisions of the law in preparation for the implementation of the tax reforms, which will radically change the tax landscape of the country. Omoniyi therefore enjoined the tax consultants to focus on enhancing tax compliance by taxpayers rather than being engaged to reduce their tax liabilities.

Also lending his voice to the discussion, the Director, Income Tax, Mohammed Usman assured the Forum of a harmonious working relationship, since the tax consultants will not work in contrast to what the Service stands for.

The Head, Tax Assessment, Abdullahi Gegele shed light on the treatment of objections raised by tax consultants on behalf of taxpayers, explaining that the Service has put in place an internal control mechanism that ensures that things are done the right way. The Head, Tax Audit, Mohammed Kabiru, also highlighted the importance of accurate filing of annual tax returns to ensure that the Service has the necessary information to work with. He also charged the tax consultants to advise and educate taxpayers on what is expected of them by the law.

Also in attendance were the Head, Corporate Affairs, Funmilola Oguntunbi, and other staff of KW-IRS.
