Sport development is a global phenomenon, an avenue for youths to earn income and add value to the growth of the country they belong. Sports participation engages minds of the youths against social vices. According to Statistics, about 19 percent of the U.S. population engaged in sports and exercise each day in 2017.

The role of sports in the society is enormous and cannot be over emphasized. It was in this view that the Executive Chairman of Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) Dr. Muritala Awodun promised to sponsor the official kit of Kwara State athletes for the forthcoming 19th National Sports Festival bid to commence in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on the 6th-16th December, 2018.

The Executive Chairman made this known while receiving the representatives of Team Kwara from the Kwara State sports council led by Coach Tunde Kazeem at the KW-IRS Head Office, GRA, Ilorin on 30th October, 2018.

In his remarks, Dr. Muritala Awodun said Kwara State is known for excellence and is passionate about sports development and desires to excel in the next edition of National Sports Festival. He urged the coaches to be fully prepared for the competition and return back to Kwara as the overall best out of 35 other states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The Executive Chairman said the Service took it upon herself to kit the athletes so that Kwara State will be well represented in terms of standard.  He advised the representatives to camp and train the athletes earlier to keep them in good shape before the competition commences.

The Kwara State Director of sports, Coach Tunde Kazeem gave his gratitude on behalf of Kwara State Sports Council for the prompt response of the Executive Chairman to the matters that may affect the performance of the athletes. He described Dr. Awodun as a sport loving man and a driver of development of Kwara State.
