The Executive Chairman of Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), Dr. Muritala Awodun has again commended the Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed for his vision to transform revenue collection process in the State.
Dr. Awodun gave the commendation on 31 January 2017 during the KW-IRS Media Parley with the Correspondence Chapel held at the Ministry of Information and Communications (MOIC) Conference Room, Ilorin.
The Executive Chairman disclosed that Governor Ahmed gave the agency the right people, modern technology and political support that made the blockage of leakages in revenue collection possible.
While giving the breakdown of 2016 revenue collected, he said N3.41billion was realized in the first quarter of the year as against the target of N4.2billion, N4.98billion was realized in the second quarter against N6.6billion targeted, while N4.18billion and N4.86billion were realized against N7.2billion and N8billion for the third and fourth quarters of the year ended respectively. This, according to him, made the total revenue generated for 2016 to be N17.4billion.
Dr. Awodun further said that the tight financial engineering that has already choreographed revenue collected in the State would not give a chance for frivolous spending. He identified running of tertiary institutions, augmentation of salary and funding of Infrastructure Fund Kwara (IF-K) for infrastructural development as some of the areas that the Kwara State revenue was being diverted.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Alhaji Mahmud Babatunde Ajeigbe appreciated the media for its relentless effort in partnering with the Ministry. The Commissioner, however, appealed to journalists in the State to be thorough, sincere and objective in their reporting and always put the State in the right perspective.
