The New Citizenship Certificate Is For The Benefit Of All – Says Awodun

The modalities for obtaining the new citizenship certificate for Kwara indigenes have been described as a good measure and a right step towards curbing the menace of losing to non-Kwara indigenes.

In response to some group of students who sought for explanations on the cost implications, modalities of issuing and cancellation of the previous certificate obtained among others, Dr.Muritala Awodun, the Chairman of KWIRS explained the modalities of collecting the new certificate to the students at Olofa’s palace on the 24th of August, 2016. Dr Awodun clarified further that the new system of obtaining the new certificate was unanimously agreed upon by the agency and the sixteen Local Government Chairmen of Kwara State since the money is still going back to the Local Government Account.The Chairman also pointed to the fact that the new certificate looks simple and seems ordinary but it has all the security values that would make it difficult to be forged anywhere apart from being verifiable online.Dr.Awodun said Kwara State Government is losing millions of naira to some dubious individuals who claimed the citizenship for different purposes.He further emphasized that the official fees to be paid is still N2500 with the following 8 steps:

  1. Visit
  2. Create an account
  3. Fill the Citizenship Form and note your Transaction I’D
  4. Make payment of N2500 with your ATM/Debit Card online
  5. You will receive confirmation via SMS and the completed form via email
  6. Download and print the completed form
  7. Take the form to all appropriate parties for signing
  8. Obtain your citizenship certificate from your LGA Headquarters

In his response, the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Ghadamosi Okikiola Esuwoye said there is a need to include the logo of each Local Government in the certificate. Oba Mufutau also urged all the stakeholders involved to create more awareness and enlightement for better understanding of the stand of Government activities and policies.
