The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari yesterday sought Kwarans’ cooperation for the newly established Kwara State Internal Revenue Service(KWIRS) just as he advised the revenue service to be modest in its operations across the state. The monarch who is also the Chairman of the state traditional council stressed the importance of taxation to the development of any nation. He described the issue of taxation as an age-long practice because without money, government would not be able to execute projects. “Tax is a must obligation, and there is also a way of taxing people without creating additional burden to the citizenry. So, our people should be rest assured that the issue of tax will not create additional burden for them. “So, any reasonable government that want to perform and succeed would have to embrace taxation”, the foremost monarch stressed. While saluting the government’s initiative for establishing the revenue service, the Emir said the establishment of the revenue service had become necessary due to the present harsh situation all over the country. Alhaji Gambari therefore, advised the state government to make judicious utilization of incomes accrued to the state through the service for wealth creation, economic and infrastructural development.
The Chief of Staff, Government House, Alhaji Yusuf Babatunde Abdulwahab and the Executive Chairman of KWIRS who led the team to the Emir’s palace said they were in the palace to seek the emir’s blessing for the revenue service.Alhaji Yusuf who told the Emir that it was important for the government to introduce taxation because of the dwindling allocation, said the monarch’s endorsement of the programme would go a long way. He said “Without payment of tax, government will not get money and without money, government will not be able to execute projects”.
